Awesome Artists: Pogo

So this week I bring you Pogo. Who is perhaps one of the most brilliant and clever artists on Youtube.
Here is a brief about me from Pogo:

"My name is Nick Bertke, better known as Pogo. I'm the chap behind such movie remixes as Alice, Upular and Skynet Symphonic, and I've spent so much time making music that it's now all I do with my life. I have worked for major studios including Disney Pixar and Showtime, found myself in the Wall Street Journal, performed for YouTube Play at the Guggenheim Museum, and have managed to share my music with over 11 million people on YouTube to whom I owe everything for their overwhelming love and support. It's my ultimate goal to share my music with the world, and I'm eternally grateful to everyone who has tuned in!" -Pogo's Youtube About Me

His talent lies in his ability to take sounds from movies and masterfully meld them together into calming almost etheral songs. It is hard to pick a top song to listen to. They are equally amazing, funk filled remixes of classic, well loved movies.
It did get him into some trouble with Disney, who used their power to shut his mouth and have him profesionally produce music for them for a year. Binding him within the law from doing what he loves. Though he is free now, who know what they, or any other corperation for that matter may try to do.

So his music is world and I emplore you the reader to check him out and comment, fave and subscirbe on Youtube and follow him on his site. (links provided after the video)

Here is a taste of his genius:

Happy Turkey Day

This might be a bit early but, this song has been a tradition for my family since I was born. Each Thanksgiving at noon we play this song and sing together. Even when my father and I were away on one of my field hockey trips, we'd get a call and we'd listen to this majestic song. "Alice'e Resturant" by Arlo Guthrie. It is a classic, funny family song that I am goingto share with you.

So, this Turkey day Around noon, drop by and watch the video below and sing along with me and my family.

Suggested Sounds

So I have decided that each week I will post the video to my top favorite song. That way if anything my wonderful readers can enjoy at least one awesome song. I'd also like to try to have a "Fan Favorite" post each week. So post your favorite song of the week and I'll post it.

"Fuck You"- Cee-lo Green
"We No Speak Americano"- Yolanda Be Cool & Dcup
"Rhinstone Eyes"-Gorillaz
"Vision Strong"- Joe Driscoll
"Lithium"- Nirvana
"The Nurse Who Loved Me"-A Perfect Circle
"Hurt"- Johnny Cash
"Stupid Fuckin' Vegan"-The Queers
"Salt in the Wounds"- Pendulum

And the top song of the week is:

Imogen Heap- Hide and Seek (Optik remix)

If you love Heap's "Hide and Seek" you'll love this remix. Personally I think this is one of the better remixes. Listen for youself and share your thoughts in the comment section.

Awesome Artist: DJ Isaac

So this weeks band is less a band and more a totally awesome DJ. I recently purchased his Best of album after hearing the track "Bitches". Seriously one of the most fun DJs I have listened to in a while.

Born in Holland under the name Roel Schutrups, his DJing started small, remixing for Dutch radio Stations. After upgrading his gear and his productions Isaac has become on of the fore runners for not only Dutch Hardcore but Hardcore techno in general. Now he's got big names in techno clawing at his door asking to be apart of his legacy.

Now back to the album. His best of has some pretty sweet tracks. "Face Down Ass Up" is pretty much about, what you expect it to be fucking. The lyrics are simple but the bass n drum is hard hitting. Even if you arent a hardstyle dancer, this song makes you move. My favorite song has to be "Bitches" purely because its about lovin' bitches not matter who they are, what they look like and what they do.

The album is in store and up for download on iTunes for a few bucks.

Check This!

Check this metal version of Lady Gaga's Bad Romance. It's a great take on a pop hit.

So, after scouring the internet for something new and different I happened across 331Erock's youtube. He currently only has 11 videos but there is enough metal goodness to melt your face off. Other covers include the best metal version of The Pirates of the Carribbean I have heard, a bunch of throwback covers to the 90's like Captain Planet and Street Fighter and perhaps the most interesting cover, Stu's Song from the Hangover.

So head on over to his channel and let him know he rocks!

Awesome Artist: The Hello Strangers

The first Awesome Artist ever, comes from a little town in PA, Mercersberg to be exact. Their name is The Hello Strangers, and they are made up of fresh talent that is extremely hard to find.
Band members are:

Larissa Chace Smith - Vocals, rhythm guitar
Brechyn Chace - Vocals, harmonica, accordion, tambourine
Kevin Shannon - Lead guitar
Katie O'Neil - Drums
Dave Holzwarth - Bass

Their songwriting can only be described as what Johnny Cash would've played had he been Larissa and Brechyn, the bands lead singers. Now, I for one am not a huge fan of country/honkytonk music. It's repetitive and I've had a hard time ever liking the genre. But I would be lying if I didn't say that I loved these guys after listening to "Pregnant in Jail", which by the way is based off a true story. They are folk/rock at its absolute best. After being hooked by one song I immediately played catch-up and listened to as many songs as I could find. The Hello Strangers released an album in early 2010 entitled Introducing Max Schmidt and it's up on iTunes for about $6.00 and it is well worth the buy. I have been listening to it for about 2 weeks now and I have yet to tire of it.

So, if you're looking for something new to listen to, and you want a guaranteed good listen go here http://www.myspace.com/thehellostrangers an www.thehellostrangers.com and get hooked.

Highlights:
"Poor Dear"
"Pregnant in Jail"
"Chances"

Suggested Sounds: Playlist1

Each week I'll post up a few songs that I have obsessed over the past week so you can obsess over them this week. Currently there is no "theme" to what I pick each week. Simply a group of ten random songs. You can find all these songs on iTunes, YouTube or any of your personal favorite music sites. Just Copy and paste into the search bar and click go!
